Doin it!

Let me tell you why I am putting these two vids up on my website.

This first one because:

1. It’s about something important.  Ie encouraging people to get involved in the process of democracy
2. It does this in a really engaging way
3. The hiphop stuff is just sheer brilliance in itself.

This second one because:
1. The hiphop stuff is again just sheer brilliance
2.Funny is good
3.It continues, in its own way, to remind us of the political process.

Both of them are posted here because they continue to remind me that a really really useful way to present ideas of importance is through humour, lightness and useful and relevant spectacle. And if we want young people to be active in their worlds then these are good things to remember for those of us who work with young people. Especially those living on the edge.

Dancin up a STORM!!!

This is just so fantastic…young people doing amazing things with their young bodies. Just what they should be doing…beauty, sharing, endeavour, challenge, streeetch…welcoming and loving audiences…everything they (and the rest of us) need to do well.

Thanks Mr Ross for keeping me in the loop to see this. This might just be an ad and I hope it gets a HUGE response.

Gone bush, hip hop, dance n circus…

I have been quick to put something up here as Amy (below) tells me that although I claim her as a favourite person there is no pic of her on my website…there is now Amy!

And so we went bush again with the Beyond Empathy mob…hip hop, circus, indigenous dance, film-making, percussion…and oh dear…paint ball…

and it was amazing as on other occasions.

Not always easy…but easy is easy. The tougher moments are the test and the negotiations and discussions were truly remarkable. I would vote for you for Prime Minister Danny…an 18 (19?) year old young man who raised with everyone something that he thought was important and with no expecatation that his preferred option would be taken up, was fair, assertive and articulate. Fantastic stuff…I will post more about this week as it was terrific. Just thought I better get Amy up here fast!

‘Lovely sweet hip-hop’

Yesterday I went to the launch in Sydney of a report on ‘Marginalized young men: meeting their needs’. And in thinking about young men and who they are, and how they are, and how they are seen, and all that is best in them, I coincidentally found this YouTube video of a simply gorgeous dance performance by two boys. How cool is this…totally hip-hop…two young men just carving it up in unique and unexpected ways… what a joy.
