Videos to help you engage with young people.
This series of videos is a subset of the Engaging Young People – 30 videos course, aimed specifically for those working with a Third Party Present to give you activities you can use to engage with young people, connect with them and build a relationship They are conversational and interactive activities so that, together, you can then begin to discuss matters that are important to young people.
I invite you to take a look at these strategies, and to share your experiences either with other members of this site or just with me if you prefer, and let me know if the videos and the activities are helpful to you. Go well!
Lessons
Video 3: I Think You Think… (Working with a Third Party Present)
A beaut activity to use when you are talking with a young person, AND someone else.
Video 4: Two Envelopes (Working with a Third Party Present)
Two envelopes, one with ‘easy’ questions and one with ‘hard’.
Video 7: Alert… Advise… (Working with a Third Party Present)
This strategy suggests that before you tackle a ‘difficult’ topic, you consult the young person you are going to be talking with, and get some advice as to how to tackle this subject, and what to do if it becomes hard for the young person.
Video 8: Colour, Shape, Sound… (Working with a Third Party Present)
This activity really asks a young person: how motivated are you to do ‘x’? And secondly, do you know all you need to know, and can you do all you need to do…to make it happen?
Video 22: Three Words (Working with a Third Party Present)
A really good activity for families or where a third person is present. Asking each person to describe themselves and each other…and then do some comparing…can be very powerful.
